The One Punch Man manga artist has announced a manga hiatus for One Punch Man Yusuke Murata.

The reason for the OPM suspension was not specified. It might just be giving time to plan the adaptation of the next big story arc. Neither Murata nor the original creator ONE are known to have any serious health issues, although ONE was hospitalized with a viral infection back in 2019.

The announcement of One Punch Man’s hiatus came shortly after the release of One Punch Man Chapter 170 in Japan. Minutes earlier, the One Punch Man Season 3 anime was also announced. (See below for more details.)

The One Punch Man Chapter 171 release date hasn’t been given, but the mangaka will be on hiatus for “about a month” to prepare for the future.

However, Murata said that they “will announce the planned release date of the new chapters as soon as it is decided”. Therefore, it is possible that One Punch Man 171 will be released in late September 2022 or October 2022.

One Punch Man Chapter 171 to start the Psychic Sisters story arc

One Punch Man Manga Series is created by Author ONE and Illustrator Yusuke Murata. As of June 4, 2022, the manga was up to One Punch Man Volume 26, which runs to Chapter 131.

Viz Media has licensed the official English translation of the One Punch Man manga series. From November 1, 2022, the English version will be available up to Volume 24.

The story of the manga itself is a bit unusual compared to your average manga since it started as a self-published work on a website called Nitosha in July 2009. Released as a One Punch Man webcomic, it was fully written and illustrated by ONE, who is also known for producing the manga series Mob Psycho 100 (Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 release date to be confirmed soon). Murata then began collaborating with ONE to adapt the webcomic with new art and even entirely new storylines.

One Punch Man 169 and 170 adapted the last webcomic chapter of the lengthy Monster Association Arc, which were webcomic chapters 53 through 94. The official OPM manga greatly expanded this story arc as it had a total of 92 chapters. One Punch Man 170 finally ended the Monster Association Arc, which also means the Human Monster Saga is over as well.

Murata also confirmed that One Punch Man Chapter 171 “will start a new saga next time,” meaning One Punch Man 171 will begin adapting the Psychic Sisters arc of the Neo Heroes Saga. To put things in perspective, the Neo Heroes Saga already has 5 storylines.

One Punch Man Season 3 Anime Confirmed

Before the One Punch Man hiatus was announced, Murata teased fans by saying, “We also have a big announcement.” The One Punch Man hiatus announcement came shortly after the One Punch Man hiatus was publicly announced. Man season 3 anime production decision, so it’s not clear if Murata was referring to the OPM season announcement, the OPM hiatus, or both.

Regardless, the Season 3 announcement was scheduled to coincide with the release date of One Punch Man 170 at 12pm JST on August 18, 2022 (which was 11pm EST on August 17, 2022).

Let’s just hope the hiatus lasts just a month and the One Punch Man Chapter 171 release date is late September 2022. Stay tuned!
