The arrival of 2023 is a blank slate for the anime industry, which has been growing rapidly with great sales, and some of its biggest headliners have sequels planned for 2023. The third season of One Punch Man was announced last year and is rumored to debut in late 2023.

There’s still an ongoing debate as to which studio will direct the animation project, but we should have an update soon. Whether it will be Studio Bones or Studio MAPPA remains to be seen, but both studios would certainly do a great job.

One Punch Man illustrator Yusuke Murata revealed on his official Twitter account a special illustration showing Saitama in a bunny suit to celebrate One Punch Man’s future for 2023.

You can see the new key visual alongside the cover art for volume 27 of the manga here:

Saitama is obviously hyped for 2023, which is the year of the rabbit according to the Chinese horoscope. I have a feeling Genos would think his sensei looked great in the bunny outfit and would end up taking a picture with his phone to share with all the other heroes.

Murata has just illustrated the manga’s most intense arc to date. It took more than a year to narrate Garou’s gripping arc, and 2022 began to illustrate the beginning of the Psychic Sisters arc, which turns out to be yet another action-packed story. You can read new chapters of One Punch Man monthly through Young Jump.

What is the year of the rabbit?

The Chinese zodiac has a continuous cycle of 12 years and represents a different zodiacal animal each year. The Chinese zodiac is based on astrology and was used in ancient times to count years and houses in the Chinese lunar calendar. The rabbit is number 4th in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac animals, which include: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.

Each zodiac year in Chinese astrology is associated with one of the five elements: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. Every 60 years there comes a water rabbit year and 2023 is one such year. This means that 2023 will be a very peaceful year following the brave Year of the Tiger. In Chinese culture, the rabbit is considered one of the happiest of the 12 animals of the zodiac, representing forgiveness, grace and beauty.

What is the plot of One Punch Man?

The story revolves around an average employee who decides to become a hero. To fulfill his childhood dream of becoming a hero who can defeat enemies with a single punch, he trains for three years until his hair falls out. Along the way, Saitama somehow managed to gain the desired strength and defeat every villain with just one punch. However, due to the fact that Saitama was overpowered, he was bored that he could not find a worthy opponent.

One day, Saitama encounters 19-year-old cyborg Genos who, after seeing Saitama’s incredible power, decides to become Saitama’s apprentice. Genos wisely suggests Saitama join the Hero Association to become official heroes recognized by society.

Saitama realizes that no one knows who he is, despite all the powerful monsters and villains he has fought alone, and decides to join the Hero Association to rectify this. As Saitama begins his journey as a member of the Hero Association, he meets new allies and faces new enemies along the way. Will Saitama ever find a worthy opponent and feel the thrill of battle once more?
