One Piece Film Red music team wins 46th Japan Academy Film Prize Special Award

The Music Team of ONE PIECE FILM RED was selected for the “Special Award” at the 46th Japan Academy Film Prize. The award will be presented at the awards ceremony on March 10, 2023 at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo.

Ado is the singing voice for the character Uta (Kaori Nazuka is the voice actor). All of the songs in the film were performed by Ado, including the theme song “Shinjidai” (New Genesis). All songs have different composers including:

  • Yasutaka Nakata (New Genesis)
  • Mrs. Green Apple (I am invincible)
  • Vaundy (backlit)
  • WRONG TYPE. (Ephemeral Lullaby)
  • Yuta Orisaka (The Continuation of the World)
  • Hiroyuki Sawano (Tot Musica)
  • Motohiro Hata (Where the Wind Blows)

The Japanese Academy Film Awards

The Japan Academy Film Prize, also known as the Japan Academy Prize, was established to promote and develop Japanese film art, technology and science and has been awarded annually since 1978.

For the 46th edition, films are eligible that were released between January 1st and December 31st, 2022 and meet criteria such as number of screenings and duration.

The Special Award is similar to the Chairperson’s Distinguished Service Award, given to filmmakers who have made significant contributions and achieved outstanding results over a long period of time.

One Piece Film Red is the fifteenth feature film in the One Piece film series, based on the manga of the same name, written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda.

Goro Taniguchi directed One Piece Film Red at Toei Animation. Fun fact: Goro Taniguchi made his directorial debut with One Piece: Defeat Him! The pirate Ganzack! In 1998.

Tsutomu Kuroiwa wrote the script. Masayuki Sato designed the characters. He was also the general animation director. Yasutaka Nakata composed the music.

On January 10, 2010, One Piece Film Red’s box office earnings surpassed 19 billion yen (US$144 million), making it the highest-grossing One Piece film. The most successful One Piece film to date was One Piece Film: Z.
