Fans will be able to see a very different looking Vash behind the wheel in Trigun Stampede, due out in 2023.

The new concept art for Trigun Stampede offers a fresh look at Vash and his evil brother Knives, perhaps not long after the terrifying event that sent them to the desert world they eventually call home.

Long-time fans will recognize some familiar moments from the old storyline in the new anime’s promotional materials, despite the new look.

The new concept art from Trigun Stampede

To give fans a glimpse into Vash and Knives’ early lives after their arrival on the planet below, which would later evolve into a civilization akin to the Old West, Studio Orange revealed Tajima Koji’s latest concept art for Trigun Stampede:

Vash and Knives’ bond was undoubtedly important to the series’ plot, as the humanoid Typhoon’s siblings were its main threat.

Knives, who has abilities comparable to those of the main character, spends most of the story in the background, throwing various obstacles in Vash’s way to weaken him and convince him to break his first rule – never one to take human lives.

The new concept image sees Studio Orange reimagining the younger versions of Trigun’s main protagonist and antagonist, with Knives being the one who abandons the brothers on the planet below and kills their parent character, Rem.

Trigun: The unforgettable classic

One of the most popular anime series to emerge in the late 1990s was Trigun. The fact that Studio Orange is relaunching it in 2023 should prove its success. Apart from that, Badlands Rumble movie was also released in 2010. This TV show is a real gem.

Numerous factors contributed to Trigun’s initial popularity, and there are many explanations for this. Of course, there are common elements like likable characters, a decent balance of drama and humor, planned action sequences, and an unforgettable soundtrack. However, Trigun needs a remarkable narrative that stands the test of time to truly deserve a reboot. The initial success of the original anime was also beneficial.

This series stands out for putting its protagonist to the test, which is another quality. Vash often finds himself in precarious situations where he may have to break his most important rule of non-killing. In addition, compliance often comes at a cost to him or the individuals he is tasked with defending. This is not like other anime where the hero is morally upright and strong enough to defeat the villain. Vash can do this, but the story frequently criticizes him for his optimism. Therefore, his dilemma centers on what needs to be done and whether he should compromise his moral principles.

Trigun manages to maintain appropriate optimism despite all the challenges. Vash usually manages to get the best score, although this story wants to punish him for trying to be a nice guy. He even manages to have a little fun doing it. It’s an added benefit when the characters work to solve their problems pleasantly.

If the Trigun reboot corresponds to its predecessor, it should succeed. It already has a loyal following, a compelling storyline, and compelling characters. All it has to do is ensure that it presents its content in a way that emphasizes its essential aspects while offering something new to older viewers.
