Dr. David Scrase the Secretary of Health and Human Services said that there was a 20% increase in Covid patients on the last day. He also emphasized that New Mexico is soon to surpass the worst-case projection owing to the spike in Covid cases. The hospitalization rate is breaking all the previous records.

An analysis of patient data shows that 90% of covid infection cases are observed in unvaccinated people. He also said that the situation is a little stressful and the result may be “we’re going to have to choose who gets the care and who doesn’t get care, and we don’t want to get to that point.”

The state administration is taking various steps to get the situation in control. It is spreading awareness about the need for vaccination. In the last few weeks, the vaccination drive across the United States has accelerated. The American Citizens are now willingly taking their vaccination dose. The realization that the only way to control the contagious spread and safeguard oneself from the deadly virus is vaccination is working.

Those citizens who were skeptical about the vaccination dose are getting their covid vaccines. Meanwhile, the spread of the Delta variant is showing a declining graph in the states where the vaccination rate is high. Whereas, the states with high unvaccinated populations are showing an upward graph.

In addition, due to the surge in the number of covid cases in Ohio, the hospitals and medical centers are thinking to halt the elective procedures.  Especially those who require an overnight stay. In covid times, the hospitals are emphasizing it is not safe to have elective procedures due to the rising rate of hospitalizations.

A statement from Ohio Health states, “Due to the fluid nature of this fourth surge, we will continually monitor capacity and pause or resume elective surgeries with an overnight stay as needed.”

There are around three Ohio Health care centers that are occupied more than 90% of capacity as of the third week of August. The  Covid infection cases in the state are expected to decline in the following week.
