First place in our poll of Thor’s best MCU performances is “Thor: Ragnarok” with nearly 26% of the vote. This comes as no surprise as critics and fans alike consider the Taika Waititi-directed film to be the best Thor solo film yet. The 2017 film flipped the script of what we’d seen of Thor up until that point, transforming a relatively dark character with dreary stories into a colorful and comedic hero who’s stronger than ever. “Ragnarok” showed a different side of the god and brought hope to fans who felt all hope for the character was lost after “Thor: The Dark World.”
Fans voted the original Thor movie as their second favorite Thor appearance in the MCU, which might be the most surprising result of our poll. With nearly 21% of the vote, the 2011 film still seems to hold a special place in the hearts of many MCU fans. As of this writing, there are 29 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Thor ranks #22 based on its critics’ ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. It ranks 23rd when it comes to viewership. While the three out of four “Thor” solo films are at the bottom of the rankings, it’s surprising to see fans vote the original as one of their favorite Thor performances.
In third place is “The Avengers” with just over 18% of the votes. The MCU’s first team-up film certainly holds a place in the hearts of many fans, and it was a great sophomore for Thor. Hemsworth shone in the incredible ensemble cast, mixing a brooding god with a comedic superhero, and we saw the seed of Thor and Bruce Banner’s (Mark Ruffalo) relationship.
