Kristen Stewart was at the peak of her “Twilight” popularity when she filmed “Snow White and the Huntsman,” a gritty live-action rendition of the Snow White fairy tale in 2012. While the film survived production and premiered without major issues, things took a turn during the summer 2012 press tour when US Weekly published photos of Stewart and director Rupert Sanders passionately embracing.
A director and his leading lady dating a hickey isn’t all that shocking — even if he’s 19 years her senior — but at the time Sanders was married and had children, and Stewart was still with her “Twilight”- Co-star Robert Pattinson dating.
Snow White and the Huntsman was released between the last two installments of the Twilight movie saga, and fans, who were so excited that the actors playing Bella and Edward were in love in real life, were blown away by the photos devastated.
Both Sanders and Stewart apologized, calling it a temporary misjudgment, but the damage was already done (via Vanity Fair). Sanders and his wife divorced, Stewart and Pattinson split just months after the photos were published, and one of the biggest Hollywood scandals of the year overshadowed another mediocre action flick.
Neither Sanders nor Stewart were invited to work on the sequel, with Stewart telling Howard Stern, “They didn’t put me in this movie because I went through such a high-profile scandal, they were afraid to touch it” (via Yahoo! News ).
