As one of the most alluring, chameleonic performers of the 20th century, Bowie’s five-decade career offers plenty of documentary material. As already mentioned, “Moonage Daydream” doesn’t delve much into the artist’s childhood, nor does it delve into tabloid details. The documentary focuses primarily on Bowie’s music career from 1970 to 1977, an era that spans from the launch of his Ziggy Stardust persona to the Thin White Duke era, but also dips into the ’80s, ’90s and 2000s.

Moonage Daydream aims to explore Bowie’s entire artistic career, including his attempts at acting and painting, as well as provide an insight into his influences. Ultimately, Moonage Daydream is Bowie’s most invested musical career, functioning in part as a concert film thanks to a wealth of live recordings and 40 tracks remastered exclusively for the film. Tony Visconti, Bowie’s longtime producer, is serving as the film’s music producer.

Neon released a trailer for Moonage Daydream in May, seen above, showcasing the film’s heady ambitions and far-reaching styles. It ends with a dreamy statement from Bowie looking up at the sky: “Life is amazing.”
