The Manga Story of The Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari

Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari is a supernatural manga written and illustrated by Onigunsou. The manga was first published in Shueisha’s Miracle Jump magazine in April 2014, but was later ported to Ultra Jump in January 2016.

Shueisha has compiled the manga into 13 tankōbon volumes, with the 14th volume expected to be released on May 18, 2022. Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed the series for English release in January 2023.

Seven Seas describes the series as follows:

When spirits cross over to the human world, they can possess ancient objects and take on a physical form: a tsukumogami. Tsukumogami can be gentle, violent, or somewhere in between, so the Saenome clan peacefully helps send them back to the spirit world to avoid destruction.

Kunato Hyouma is a member of the clan, but… far from peaceful, having harbored a grudge when a tsukumogami stole something important from him. Fearing that Hyouma’s outrageous anger at dealing with these spirits might lead to supernatural disasters, Hyouma’s grandfather sends him to Kyoto to join Nagatsuki Botan, an unusual young woman who lives with Tsukumogami like family! Can Hyouma learn to control his emotions when dealing with tsukumogami, or is his own mind doomed to be possessed by anger forever?
