MODOK Fans Just Got The News They’ve Been Dreading

According to Variety, Hulu announced in mid-May that it had officially canceled MODOK after just one season. While the streaming company hasn’t given a specific reason for kicking “MODOK” to the side of the road, this is hardly the first Marvel series the company has stopped right in its infancy. Another Marvel comedy series, Hit-Monkey originally aired on Hulu in November 2021 but has not yet received a second season at the time of writing. Likewise, Hulu had the wannabe shows Howard the Duck and Tigra and Dazzler long before they even released (via Deadline).

on Twitter, Oswalt was understandably disappointed that “MODOK” went the route of the dodo along with these other shows. “Well,” wrote the “Eternals” actor. “I had to work with the best writers, a dream voice and @Marvel letting us run amok in their toy box. Another great experience. Forward!”

According to the Variety article, Hulu’s collection of now-cancelled Marvel series was eventually to be crossed over, but those plans were soon dashed by their mutual cancellations and the death of their production company, Marvel Television. After Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios took over the company’s television sector for its various Disney+ shows, shows like MODOK were subsequently sidelined. Hulu may not have provided a specific reason for the cancellation, but the writing is still on the wall. Unfortunately, there may not be room for shows like MODOK in Marvel’s itinerary.
