As noted in Looper’s CSI: Miami Season 1 rerun, Alexx Woods tends to speak very differently to murder victims and criminals. While she speaks to victims in a manner that could be described as tender, loving, and even maternal, that warm manner doesn’t carry over to her dealings with criminals. When it comes to dead bodies from the other side of the law, Woods is noticeably different. She still speaks to them, although not in the same way. While she remains professional, her manner towards the villains is definitely cooler and more direct.
Would that still be the case if CSI: Miami aired today? The last installment of the spinoff was released in 2012, over a decade ago. It’s quite possible that if the series got a revival like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Woods would treat the bodies of criminals with a little more respect. In recent years, the conversation about how criminals are perceived has shifted as more people are willing to consider what drives them to turn to crime in the first place. Perhaps Woods would be more willing to loosen up certain types of criminals in modern times, considering they might just have been desperate people meeting sad endings.
