Anime MF Ghost release date in 2023
MF Ghost’s release date in Japan is set for 2023. It is based on his manga of the same name by Shigeno Shūichi (Initial D) who received the 1985 Kodansha Manga Award (shōnen) for Bari Bari Densetsu, an early motorcycle racing manga.
The manga MF Ghost, a sequel to Initial D, was published in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine (Shūkan Yangu Magajin) under the Yanmaga KC Special label and began publishing on April 4.
In January 2022, Kodansha Comics and Comixology announced an English language release of MF Ghost, promptly releasing the first 10 manga volumes. The series is also available on Amazon Prime and Kindle Unlimited.
MF ghost plot
The series is set in the 2020s when self-driving cars are all the rage in Japan. The main protagonist of the series, Kanata Livington, is a Japanese driver who returns to Japan at the top of his class after graduating from a racing school in England.
MF Ghost revolves around MFG, a street racing organization founded by Ryosuke Takahashi (Initial D) where Kanata Livington (competing under the alias Kanata Katagiri) makes his debut in his Toyota AE86.
Adrenaline rush aside, Livington has a deeper motive in his endeavors: to find his long-lost father.
By MF Ghost Mangaka
Shigeno Shūichi (重野秀一, born March 8, 1958) is a Japanese mangaka best known for his motorcycle racing manga. With Bari Bari Densetsu (1983–1991) earning him the Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen, Shigeno went on to create Initial D (1995–2013) and MF Ghost (2017–ongoing).
Fun fact: Shigeno Shūichi bought a Toyota AE86 with the first check from Bari bari Densetsu and says he chose the car so he could talk to his then-girlfriend, which is impossible on a motorcycle. He later crashed his car into a guardrail, which proved useful when working on Initial D. Aside from that, the Initial D MC Takumi Fujiwara has the exact same car model that was later popularized by the Gran Turismo series.
