Matt Smith And Fabien Frankel Analyze The Jousting Scene In House Of The Dragon Episode 1

It pretty much goes into the actors’ time in the tournament arena. They may start out on horseback, but as the battle progresses, both find themselves on their own two feet to claim victory. Of course, the two had some help driving the sequence to the extreme, as Fabien Frankel explained, “A great stuntman helped us work on this fight for years. Frosted [Smith] compares it to a dance, which is a really apt way of describing what it was. It was actually a nice way for us to get to know each other.”

But there’s more to a scene than building camaraderie. The safety of people must also be taken into account so that everything runs smoothly. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen, as Smith said: “There’s a lot of bureaucracy, but you wouldn’t know it in this job; People get hurt all the time.”

One such injury sustained Frankel’s stuntman. “My stuntman Rich, who pretty much doubled most of the shoot, got a really bad injury in the tournament,” he said. He and Smith both had the greatest admiration for the work the stunt team did on the series, and the work everyone did in the pilot really speaks for itself.

House of the Dragon airs new episodes every Sunday on HBO.
