Love Island UK Implemented A Smoking Ban After Receiving Some Harsh Backlash
According to BBC News, viewers often complained about the amount of smoking depicted on “Love Island.” Viewers even took their concerns directly to Ofcom, the UK broadcasting regulator. Viewers also took to social media to comment on how many smokers were on the island. On Twitter user wrote“The level of smoking on Love Island is indeed shocking.”
The complaints worked and ITV banned attendees from smoking in the villa and surrounding gardens (per HuffPost). However, islanders are still allowed to smoke a cigarette. You just have to do it alone in a designated smoking area while nothing movie worthy happens. Metro confirmed that the same rules apply to vaping as well. However, some viewers feel that the series went downhill once the smoking bans were implemented. A Twitter user wrote“Love Island crashed when they banned smoking on screen.” Meanwhile, wrote another user“BRING BACK CHAIN SMOKING ON LOVE ISLAND!!!!!!!!!!!”
While fans on “Love Island” hotly debated the smoking switch, it turns out that quitting cigarettes wasn’t the only production change coming to the show due to viewer concerns.
