Breast cancer is cancer that is developed in the breast tissues and one of the major symptoms of breast cancer is a change in the shape of the breast, dimpling of the skin, fluid coming off the nipple, a newly inverted nipple, or a red or scaly patch of skin. Some of the causes of breast cancer include being a female, obesity, lack of physical exercise, alcoholism, hormone replacement therapy during menopause, ionizing radiation, at the early age at first menstruation. Even though hormone replacement therapy helps in curing cancer, but when it is done during menopause, then the side effect of this therapy leads to breast cancer.
There Is A Link Between A Women’s Diet And Breast Cancer
The majority of the women undergo diets, treatments, or even do exercises to be healthy and stay in shape. Some of them even take medications that help them in increasing their body’s metabolism and help them stay fit and healthy. As per recent reports, women whose diets tend to feed inflammation may have a high risk of breast cancer. The study also showed that more than 350,000 women found that the more pro-inflammatory foods they consumed, they had a higher risk of breast cancer. This term refers to foods that contribute to chronic low-grade inflammation throughout the body – a state implicated in various disease processes.
The researchers also mentioned that the findings do not prove cause and effect, but they do add to evidence that this diet can affect the likelihood of developing breast cancer. Unsurprisingly, a pro-inflammatory diet is full of the usual suspects. The lead of the research also mentioned that it is high in red and processed meats, sugar, and saturated fats. She also mentioned that these type of foods might contribute to breast cancer because it promotes inflammation and also because it lacks the foods that fight inflammation. Those foods are no surprise either and they include, vegetables, fruits, beans, fiber-rich grains, and good unsaturated fats.
She is also yet to release the results this week at the annual meeting of the American Society for Nutrition and the studies show that these results are considered as the preliminary results until published in a peer-reviewed journal. She also mentioned that diet has linked to the risk of numerous types of cancer and breast cancer is one among them. The director of epidemiology at the American Cancer Society also mentioned that there is some evidence that dietary patterns rich in plant foods and lower in animal products have a lower risk of postmenopausal breast cancer.
The study also suggested that to give stronger evidence found out the benefits of the traditional Mediterranean diet. Women assigned to the diet and who even took olive oil in their diets had a lower risk of developing breast cancer than those who were told to cut fat from their diets. The Mediterranean diets contain many anti-inflammatory ones which include being rich in fish, vegetables, whole grains, and good fats, and low in red meat and processed foods. It was also mentioned that the cancer society does not advise anyone to follow diets that cure cancer. Still, they advise you to follow certain healthy eating habits that include plenty of plant foods and limits on sugar, refined grains, and red meat.
The cancer society researchers also mention that diet, of course, will affect the body weight, and obesity is believed to boost the risk of various cancers, but also mentioned that the eating habits affect the cancer risk above and beyond their weight impact. The researchers assigned each woman a score rating the inflammatory potential of her diet based on the nutrients and other components in the foods, and over about 15 years, more than 13,200 women were diagnosed with breast cancer. The risk was 12% more among the one-fifth of women with most of the inflammatory diets versus one-fifth of eating the fewest pro-inflammatory foods.
