Ever since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as directors of DC Studios, the DC cinematic universe has been in turmoil. Roles have been recast – most notably Superman himself, with Henry Cavill unexpectedly removed from the role – movies like Wonder Woman 3 have ended up in the can and priorities have shifted when it comes to the future of the movie franchise goes. So what will become of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman in this new era? Apparently nothing, as he recently told Variety, “I will always be Aquaman.
This comment comes after Momoa met with Gunn and Safran to discuss his future under the DC banner. Aside from Aquaman, it seems he still needs to work in DC projects in various roles. “There might be some other characters as well. I can also play other things. I can be fun and wild and charming,” Momoa shared with the publication. Could this be a hint that Momoa is set to play DC favorite Lobo after all, proving those longstanding rumors? We’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds for the actor and the DC Universe in general.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will surface on December 25, 2023.
