Publisher J-Novel Club gives fans the perfect opportunity to learn about several ongoing light novel and manga series for free! Fans only have until the end of October to dive into over 37 volumes of content. Try the first part of each volume for free and buy the entire book, or subscribe to the J-Novel Club to read the rest!

Written by author Hayaken, VRMMO Academy’s redefinition of the META takes readers through the school life of Ren Takashiro – an MMO-obsessed middle school student preparing to enter a high school where students are graded on their gaming ability. However, once Ren gets a glimpse of the class choices in his new school’s game world, he’s drawn to one that’s been described as the “biggest crap” of them all. That’s fine with Ren, of course, as his goal is to redefine the game’s meta.

For something similar to Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, there’s also an Isekai light novel that reinvents a modern-day civilian in a pre-industrial world. Created by author Mizuumi Amakawa, Fushi no Kami: Rebuilding Civilization Starts With a Village explores the lives of Ash and townspeople like his girlfriend Maika who sooner or later try to bring about the modern age.

Does the J-Novel Club offer free horror novels for Halloween?

Along with a decent selection of fantasy titles, J-Novel Club has two multi-part horror light novels available for free until the end of the month.

Popular and long-running detective series from the 70’s John Sinclair: Demon Hunter leads a special agent from Scotland Yard through trials and tribulations in order to get to the bottom of supernatural cases. Divided into episodic parts penned by writers Gabriel Conroy and Jason Dark, each volume sees Detective Sinclair take on demons, vampires and all manner of stalkers of the night.

Author Kenji Kuroda’s Ao Oni begins with Shun, a high school programmer who is pleasantly surprised to learn that his classmate Hiroshi is a fan of his online escape game. What begins as a lighthearted encounter, however, turns sour as the next time they meet, the two will struggle to survive.

While more sci-fi than horror, author Iori Miyazawa’s Picnic on the other hand has many nightmarish events that make it a perfect Halloween read. Struggling college student Sorawo Kamikoshi expected student loan debt to bring her death, but when she wakes up in a mysterious world, she must rely on her new friend Toriko Nishina to evade the creatures that are harming them both .

Which manga is available for free in the J-Novel Club?

While J-Novel Club is primarily known as a light novel publisher, they also have several manga in their roster including Black Summoner and Ascendance of a Bookworm.

Those interested in learning about any of her manga releases can read the first chapter of all eight volumes of Record of Wortia War by author Fumi Arawi and artist Yukari Yagi. High schooler and martial arts master Ryoma Mikoshiba’s life is turned upside down when he is called into a world where swords and sorcery reign supreme. Now he must put his grandfather’s dubious education to the test in order to survive.

The J-Novel Club’s monthly catch-up list changes monthly, so those who haven’t spotted anything that piques their interest can always wait for the next lineup. With new releases like My Next Life as a Villainess and In Another World With My Smartphone constantly coming out, there’s no shortage of light novels to choose from.
