John Astin started his career in theater. He made his Broadway debut as an understudy in Major Barbara and has also worked as a voice artist for commercials. His first major film was West Side Story in 1961. It was around this time that his comedic talent was spotted by Tony Randall, which led to him getting roles in sitcoms. In 1962/62 he had his first sitcom show “I’m Fat, He’s a Window”. He is best known for his role in the series Addams Family, in which he starred as Gomez, the head of the family.
