On the r/InterviewVampire subreddit, fans have speculated about what the Armand reveal means for Interview With the Vampire and its characters. While Armand hasn’t hidden his disdain for the Daniel and Louis interview or his dislike for the author, his threats against Daniel and Louis’ subsequent declaration of love for Armand definitely had an air of menace, as many viewers noted.
“Am I the only one who had an ominous feeling about Armand and Louis at the end?” asked u/OGChocolateThunder. The user also described the situation as a kind of hostage situation. U/msephron quickly agreed, noting how Louis often seems shocked or confused by the changes in his memories and comments from the original interview. “To me, it feels like Louis really doesn’t realize his memories are fake,” they noted.
In The Vampire Chronicles, Armand is the first older vampire that readers encounter, having possessed the Dark Gift for approximately 500 years. This means that he is far more powerful than Louis, Claudia or Lestat (Sam Reid) and it is possible that he is messing with Louis’ mind or his memories. Also, as Daniel noted, many pages appear to have been carefully removed from the journals, suggesting that Armand could also be behind this deception.
While this could all be Armand’s way of keeping Louis happy in the present, it could also be something far more sinister. Either way, fans will have to wait until Season 2 of Interview With the Vampire to learn more about Armand’s plans and motivations.
