Fear not, Grey’s Anatomy fans; Sandra Oh apparently has no significant axes to grind with the series. Though she noted in a 2021 interview with the Today Show that the sudden loss of anonymity that came with her rise to stardom on the show was a major personal challenge, Oh has mostly spoken with sincere fondness about hers over the years Spoken time on Grey’s Anatomy. And she continued to do so during an interview with the Los Angeles Times podcast “Asian Enough” in 2021.
During the interview, when asked about her time on the show, Oh openly admitted what a unique experience it was for her, gushed, “It was just such a privilege to play [Cristina] for a decade.” She continued, “I’d say it’s very rare to see a character’s impact in that way…” Oh was also asked if she’d be willing to return to “Grey’s Anatomy,” like it several former co-stars did in season 17. Unfortunately, she dismissed the possibility with a loud “Oh my god no!” before declaring in no uncertain terms that her time on Grey’s Anatomy was indeed over. “…in my mind it’s gone. But for a lot of people it’s still very much alive. And while I understand it and I love it, I’ve moved on.”
This statement will surely crush the hearts of Grey’s Anatomy fans who have missed Cristina Yang. But at least they can comfort themselves knowing that the funny character always makes them laugh and cry good in reruns.
