How Aubrey Plaza Really Feels About Those Tomb Raider Casting Rumors

The confusion comes from the Last Night in Soho director’s snafu in assuming a poster promoting Emily The Criminal was a new iteration of Laura Croft. Newsweek captured Plaza’s reaction: “It was so funny when [Edgar] texted me this because I didn’t realize how strikingly similar these photos are. Emily carries a purse strap and Lara Croft has a gun holster; these are completely different. It’s very weird and totally random, but I’ll take it.” With her incognito attire, Plaza could easily pull off the adventurous Croft or even an undercover Marvel hero in her signature disguise.

While there’s nothing remotely in the works for Plaza and Croft, stranger things have happened. The action gig might seem unconventional for the actress; In fact, however, she had a lesser-known early start in science fiction, even with her unique sense of humor. The role of Laura Croft would be an excellent culmination of her acting career to date, which combines death-defying heroics with witty and dry one-liners.

Played by Angelina Jolie in 2001 and 2003, Croft rebooted in 2018 with Alicia Vikander, who sadly dropped out after a disappointing release. With Newsweek, Plaza is expanding her thoughts on taking on the title character in the future. “I’d love for it to become something real in some way, but who knows, I have no idea. That’s an iconic figure. She’s the original badass.”
