House Of The Dragon’s Design For Rhaenyra’s Baby Is Absolutely Terrifying

Read Time:1 Minute, 9 Second

In the episode itself, it’s difficult to get a good look at the stillborn Visenya, as she’s covered in blood and held tightly in the arms of Rhaenyra Targaryen – despite a recent post on Instagram by prosthetic makeup designer Barrie Gower highlights some of the finer details on the baby’s design. Gower’s contribution includes two brightly lit images of baby Visenya against a black background: the first highlights her deformed nose and sunken face, and the second shows her conical skull.

The most noticeable deformity in these two images (hardly seen in the episode itself) is the numerous lizard-like scales covering Visenya’s head, chest, and back. The second image shows that she has an abundance of these scales on the back of her head, running down her spine – and that the back of her head has an almost horn-like protrusion that is responsible for the shape of her skull.

The post reads, “A silicone baby we created for the last episode of @houseofthedragonhbo” and lists credits to members of the sculpting, art finishing, silicone and mechanical team who worked on this particular model. Given the immense amount of detail shown in this small model, it seems strange that these scales are not given more prominence in the episode itself, given that they are explicitly mentioned in the series’ source material, Fire & Blood.
