For Steve Toussaint, it’s not only ridiculous but factual to be criticized for being a black actor in a wealthy and prominent role played by George RR Martin – who is of Valyrian descent. And when it comes to fantasy, Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon fans have nowhere to talk.

“You’re happy with white hair and violet eyes, but a rich black man? It’s anything but pale,” Toussaint told Men’s Health. He points out how people have been misguided for so many years after basing their ideologies and opinions on films from “a few films and things that were made in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s that bear no resemblance whatsoever are the truth He added: “Historically, people of my color and yours, we didn’t just show up here in the ’70s or ’60s. There was a point at which his country’s ruler, ‘the Caesar,’ was an African man .There are street names saying that even back then there were people in this country who looked like us but for some reason it seems very hard for people to swallow and like you said they are happy with a flying kite.”

Lord Corlys Velaryon is expected to have a major role in the House of the Dragon storyline, so hateful fans will likely have a lot to say in Season 1. The August 21 premiere was a huge hit for HBO. with nearly 10 million viewers reportedly tuning in. It’s also reported to have been the biggest launch ever for HBO Max (via The Hollywood Reporter).
