House Of The Dragon Fans Are Calling Out The Showrunners For This Lie

Read Time:1 Minute, 24 Second

nope! As audiences will no doubt have noticed, not only do Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) find time for a quick, explicitly visual round, there is also a lengthy orgy sequence, similar to the scene in the first episode of Netflix, The witcher.” Less graphic seems Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) ordering his daughter Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey) to seduce King Viserys (Paddy Considine). While marginally sexual (but crucially, more on that later), there’s a painfully drawn-out torture sequence in which Queen Aemma Arryn (Sian Brooke) undergoes a forced, unsedated cesarean. It didn’t end well for her. Within a single episode, House of the Dragon has proven itself to be everything its predecessor was – a story that is deeply sexual in nature and that seems to relish dwelling in human suffering. To be fair, this is an accurate representation of George RR Martin’s work, but it’s not what the studio promised.

On a subreddit dedicated to the new spinoff series, u/Narga15 posted a meme mocking the showrunner’s press comments, stating that House of the Dragon would have less sexual content than Game of Thrones “. The meme’s caption reads, “So that was a lie.” Mind you, the showrunners — Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik — backed down on those remarks almost immediately. As noted by Game Rant, Condal and Sapochnik insist their statements were taken out of context to mean something entirely separate from their original, intended function. To better understand this mess, let’s look at how Condal and Sapochnik seem to move the goal post with each additional statement. It’s a little messy, so bear with us for a moment.
