Here’s What Convinced Rip Carlton To Finally Join Deadliest Catch

Read Time:1 Minute, 1 Second

After years of being asked to join the show and repeatedly turning down Deadliest Catch’s producers, Carlton changed his mind after taking his grievances to Arom Starr-Paul, who rose to become a co-executive of Deadliest Catch’s producer in 2017 (via IMDb). “What changed my mind is actually the gentleman Arom Starr [Paul], who now runs the show, had spoken to me and I kind of let him know my hesitation,” Carlton told OPB.org. “He said, well, I think we can work around this. You have so many crabs to catch, we’ll work with you.” Those words got Carlton thinking about joining the long-running series, but a chat with his son allayed any remaining concerns.

“Dad, in 20 years, when you’re gone, I can put this little memory stick in the computer and show it to my kids and say, ‘That’s my dad,'” Carlton recalled his son, Derek told him. That was all he needed to hear to finally sign the dotted line. Patricia Lee dominated the Sweepstakes Season 18 of Deadliest Catch, so don’t be surprised if Rip Carlton and his crew get a lot more screen time in future seasons.
