Now for the million dollar question: Why is Cavill leaving? Well, as may have become clear above, it’s more than likely that the actor didn’t just wake up one day and decide to end his epic adventure as Geralt – there must be external factors at work. Recall that in a November 2021 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill expressed his satisfaction at how busy his acting life had gotten, noting all of his passion projects in a way that now feels ominous. In Cavill’s words, “After 21 years of hard work, I have three jobs ahead of me. Maybe it’s me, maybe it’s my approach, maybe my value as a commodity increases when I’m attached to things like The Witcher. Now I can really focus on storytelling and grow from there.”

In the same interview, Cavill committed to playing Geralt for at least seven seasons. Given his passion for the role, what could make him walk away? Well, there’s a large, blue-robed elephant in the room – another character Cavill is equally passionate about that will take his time.

The much-hyped return of Cavill’s Superman in Black Adam gets everyone talking. The entire future of the DCEU now arguably rests on Cavill’s mighty shoulders, and the whispers of a Man of Steel 2 have grown into a deafening chorus. Between that possible sequel, plus a seemingly inevitable standoff with Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) and future opportunities in the Justice League, Cavill may simply have reached an impasse where he was forced to choose between Geralt and Superman. Unfortunately, while both characters have superpowers, Cavill doesn’t have them, and maybe he just doesn’t have room in his schedule to be both the DC superhero and the legendary witcher.
