All eyes are on the classic after a strong first season to see how its Kall-Su storyline is handled and it seems things are going well. After all, the poster was also accompanied by a BASTARD!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy- Season 2 Trailer.

As you can see below, the first trailer for the second season of BASTARD!! Anime starts out depressing. An army marches through the streets while a burning city is shown.

Look at the BASTARD!! Season 2 trailer below:

Of course new fans of the BASTARD!! Anime will want to see the first season. You can watch the anime on Netflix and devour it over the weekend.

BASTARD!! Part 2 consisted of BASTARD!! Episodes 14 to 24. Yes, that means BASTARD!! Season 1 was a split court anime season. The second half wasn’t the BASTARD!! Season 2 Anime.

What is a cour, you might ask? For those unfamiliar with the jargon, a “cour” is a three-month television block based on the physical seasons, typically consisting of 10 to 13 episodes.

In a “split-cour,” a single anime season takes a hiatus of several months before televising resumes.

BASTARD!! Hell’s Requiem series story plot and more

In BASTARD!! the apocalypse takes place 400 years later on a post-apocalyptic earth in the present. According to legend, the “devil” Anthrasax was to blame, but was killed by the Dragon Knight before wiping out humanity. However, the fallout from Anthrasax’s strike sent humanity into a new dark era where fiction became fact.

The dark rebel army attacks the Kingdom of Metallicana at the beginning of the story to bring back Anthrasax. The Dark Wizard who founded the Dark Rebel Army, Dark Schneider, is asked to be awakened by Metallicana’s high priest, who asks his daughter to do so.

It is then revealed that Schneider took the form of 14-year-old Lucien Renlen after his reincarnation. Dark Tailor is brought back to the world by Tia Noto Yoko, the High Priest’s daughter, albeit with a new personality and a slew of eccentricities. Now Dark Schneider, Tia Noto Yoko and their allies embark on an adventure to stop the resurgence of Anthrasax while learning more about Dark Schneider’s background and the history of their world.

Here is the story synopsis for the beginning of BASTARD!! Season 2:

Hell’s Requiem… Dismemberment can’t stop Dark Schneider! As the evil priestess Abigail unleashes her ultimate weapon to obliterate his enemy’s remnants, the increasingly limbless wizard pours his lifeblood into an apocalyptic mage vs. mecha battle! Three years later, a new crew of heroes and villains has emerged, but doomsday may not be delayed for long. The ice wizard Kall-Su, the tallest of Dark Schneider’s surviving protégés, is now the most powerful force on earth, and only a girl stands between him and the evil dog Anthrasax, the destroyer of worlds.

The first season adapted the first 69 chapters of the first 7 volumes of the manga series with the Dark Rebel Armies story arc. Season 2 adapts manga volumes 8 to 12, the BASTARD!! Story arc of Hell’s Requiem.

The Bastard!!: Heavy Metal Dark Fantasy Manga

The manga The Bastard!!: Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy by Kazushi Hagiwara began in 1988. It was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump before being carried over to Ultra Jump in 2000. The manga was interrupted in 2010 and is still unfinished to this day.

The latest installment in the manga series was released in July 2017 while the previous installment was released in June 2010. Fans claim that the BASTARD!! The manga will likely never be completed as creator Kazushi Hagiwara’s vision problems have worsened with age.

Bastard!! Blending multiple genres, it’s heavily inspired by the eponymous heavy metal and RPG, particularly Dungeons & Dragons. If you’re unfamiliar with the franchise, expect adventure, fantasy, and the supernatural galore, topped with catchy heavy metal songs and epic battles.

Bastard!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy- Season 2 Studio and collaborators

The producer behind the BASTARD!! Anime series is Warner Bros. Japan and the animation studio is Liden Films. The Japanese animation studio is busy lately for anime TV shows like Blade of the Immortal, Otherside Picnic, Cells At Work! CODE BLACK and Tokyo Revengers (Tokyo Revengers Season 2 release date was also 2023).

Studio Felix Film was responsible for the 3D CGI animation sequences.

Takaharu Ozaki controls the BASTARD!! Anime Project Season 1 at Liden Films. The director is best known for his recent work on Goblin Slayer: Goblin’s Crown and Persona 5 the Animation: The Day Breakers.

He also seems to be a big fan of the series. During a small interview segment after the BASTARD!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy- Anime Announcement Special Event he said the following:

“Bastard!! has been around for a while. It’s considered a pioneering work indeed. A lot of Japanese anime, novels and manga were influenced by it. It’s sort of where the fantasy genre started. When Bastard!! was serialized, there was not many fantasy titles out there. Something that polished. People were really drawn to this world of fantasy. I was a fan at the time too. I was a kid reading the manga. And so Bastard!! is really a pioneer. “

Author Yousuke Kuroda (Goblin Slayer, My Hero Academia, Sword Art Online: Gun Gale Online) was responsible for composing the series. Remarkably, the ONA was much more faithful to the manga source material compared to the previous 90’s anime adaptation.

Artist Sayaka Ono (Sacred Seven) was the character designer. Composer Yasuharu Takanashi (Log Horizon, Kengan Ashura, Zombieland Saga) created the music.
