The President and CEO of Springfield-based Cox health in Missouri, Steve Edwards, feel that the health experts are not able to encourage people of his area to get vaccinated. He further told CNN on Friday that out of 534 people who died due to Covid-19, over 100 patients were unvaccinated. He showed concern on rising cases of coronavirus and figuring out the situation. He told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota that 80-90% of people should get immune before they catch a virus and get infected. The vaccination rate is not even half of the total population. In people, the hesitation of vaccination comes from the mistrust of the institutions and government.
He feels guilty as people are dying unnecessarily. He is an important voice in the local healthcare system, yet not able to do much. Edwards emphasized the efficacy of vaccines and proved it to be a life-savor.
CEO Healthcare Of Missouri Tries To Reach Unvaccinated People
Dr. Vivek Murthy, US General Surgeon shows concern over the unvaccinated people as Delta variant is spreading rapidly leading to hospitalizations and more deaths which is possible because the variant is the most transmittable strain of Covid-19 to date.
The AP NRC poll suggests that 45% of people will not get vaccinated, however, Murthy said he is not willing to give up.
The lower rate of vaccination is the main reason for the surge in Covid-19 cases as said by health experts. One expert said on Thursday that hospitalizations and deaths are increasing due to the rise in the spread of the Delta variant. Dr. Peter Hotez said to CNN’s Jim Acosta that these all can be prevented if people get vaccinated, therefore, the consequences which people are facing are self-inflicted wounds.
The vaccination rate is declining continuously according to CDC data. So far, 48.9% of the US population has been fully vaccinated. Although the US government has purchased 200 million doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. The spread of the Delta variant will be affecting rural communities the most with the lowest vaccination rates including Alabama and Mississippi having 33.9% and less than 35% vaccination rates respectively.
Therefore, some areas are returning to the masks as variants are spreading at a higher rate.
Lina Hidalgo, Harris County Judge of Texas has warned the area for the fourth wave and is requesting people to wear masks.
Dr. Rochelle Walensky, CDC Director said that the choice is up for the vaccinated people. However, the CDC recommended that unvaccinated people should wear masks. She added that the Delta variant is the most transmittable one. Hence, vaccination should become more important to stop the further spread of the virus.
On Thursday, CNN Medical Analyst Dr. Leana Wen told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that even the vaccinated people are also in the danger zone as vaccines are not 100% effective.
The transmission rate would be higher during fall and winter as compared to summer, said Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent. He said that vaccinated people are more immune to the virus and if they are infected with the virus, they can prevent hospitalization.
According to CDC data, 15 minutes or more of close exposure with the person without a mask can lead to the transmission of the virus but with the delta variant, it takes only one second to catch the virus. This information was said by Dr. Celine Gounder, ex-president in Covid-19 transition advisory board during Joe Biden’s government in an interview with STAT.
The most important things against the variant are masks, vaccines and good ventilation.
She further added that ventilation is necessary for homes. This can be done by opening windows of the house which leads to less air dilution.
