Vanessa Lachey, who is married to 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey, plays Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant on NCIS: Hawaii, making history as the first woman to direct a series in the long-running franchise that includes the original NCIS is now in its 19th season, as are the previous three spin-offs.
As Tennant’s deputy on NCIS: Hawaii, Noah Mills obviously has a lot to do with Lachey, whom he calls an “amazing” co-star.
“Vanessa is so generous,” Mills shared in the interview. “She really is. The way she makes the crew feel, the way she organizes and the energy she brings is truly amazing…Vanessa is a leader, and her generosity and raising the troops in real life works so well for the show and for [her character] Jan.”
Mills said the behind-the-scenes camaraderie spills over into the show itself as well. “These are all things that happen symbiotically with us in real life,” he said. “It bleeds into the show and mixes together. Season 1 was a really nice mix of that and Vanessa was an amazing lead and leader and held us all together. She fell in love with the island and the crew and everyone and we all followed her example. She’s gorgeous.”
But Lachey isn’t just a strong leader on set, he’s also someone who makes the cast and crew laugh and keep them on their toes. “Vanessa is a dork…she’s so funny,” Mills revealed. “We’re a silly, silly set, [but] we work hard and we make it. Maybe some of the stuff isn’t pretty… but yeah, we’re having a lot of fun.”
“NCIS: Hawaii” airs Mondays at 10:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
