Harry Potter Fans Always Laugh At This Movie Quote That Wasn’t In The Books

In a subreddit dedicated to “Harry Potter,” u/blvackwitchery shared, “That line from Rita from the movie [Goblet of Fire] The things that aren’t in the books always make me laugh.” They continue to share a brief conversation between Rita Skeeter and the Boy Who Lived just as they enter a broom closet for a one-on-one. Rita says, “That’s cozy,” to which Harry replies, “Uh, it’s a broom closet.” Then Rita brings it home with a violent shove, saying, “Then you should feel at home.”

While we probably shouldn’t have to explain why this particular dig is so particularly gruesome, there might be someone out there who hasn’t consumed Potter mediums, so here’s a quick rundown. Harry Potter spent his first eleven years in a broom closet. That’s it. His family, the Dursleys, is made up entirely of vicious and selfish people. In the words of Professor McGonagall (Maggie Smith), “You’re the worst kind of Muggle imaginable.”

Harry never really talks about his time with the Dursleys at Hogwarts, so it further shows how invasive Rita Skeeter is. As readers or viewers will know, Rita Skeeter turns out to be a literal fly (or bug) on the wall in rooms she has no right to, and so she gets dirt for her trashy gossip. At the same time, Miranda Richardson portrays Skeeter so well that even her gruesome digs are delivered with hilarious panache.
