According to the Director of the CDC, Dr. Rochelle Walensky at a briefing at the White House, “Covid-19 continues to exert a tremendous toll on our nation. Like you, I want to be able to return to everyday activities and engage with our friends, families, and communities. Science and the protection of public health must guide us as we begin to resume these activities. Today’s action represents an important first step. It is not our final destination.”

According to the guidelines, people who have been fully vaccinated can visit other vaccinated people and small gatherings of unvaccinated people. However, safety precautions still need to be kept in place. The CDC considers people to be completely vaccinated if two weeks have passed since their second dose of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines. For the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, one is considered to be fully vaccinated if two weeks have passed since their single dose of the vaccine.

The guidelines provided by the CDC state that people should determine the level to which they should take precautions based on the characteristic factors of those who are still unvaccinated. The guidelines state that fully vaccinated people can visit other people who have been vaccinated indoors without wearing masks or physical distancing.

It allows fully vaccinated people to visit unvaccinated people from a single household who are at low risk for severe COVID-19 disease indoors without wearing masks or physical distancing. The guidelines also emphasize that people who are completely vaccinated people do not need to practice quarantine and testing after a known exposure if asymptomatic but they should monitor their symptoms for 14 days.

However, vaccinated individuals should still adhere to some safety precautions to avoid risking infection of unvaccinated people. The guidelines elaborated by saying that people should continue to wear their well-fitted masks in public and practice social distancing. The guidelines also emphasize the importance of avoiding large gatherings and trying to restrict traveling.

The guidelines emphasize the importance of prioritizing safety if one comes in contact with an unvaccinated person. It states that one must wear masks, practice social distancing and follow all Covid 19 prevention measures if they come in contact with an unvaccinated household member. Safety precautions must also be taken when meeting unvaccinated people hailing from multiple households.

The CDC guidelines have asked people to remain vigilant and get tested if they are experiencing Covid 19 symptoms. Working individuals are encouraged to follow the individual guidance that is issued by their employers. It is important to note that the CDC guidelines are unchanged on the topic of travel. The CDC encourages people to delay their travel plans for the time being.

The reason as the director of the CDC, Walensky explains is that more data is needed to know how much transmission of the virus occurs from vaccinated people to others. She explained that a larger population is required to be vaccinated before this can be figured out. So far 90% of the population remains unvaccinated which could lead to dire consequences if taken lightly.
