Because George RR Martin created a rich world filled with iconic characters, it’s not hard to compare it to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There was no franchise as ambitious as the MCU, and the writer pondered how the Game of Thrones universe would dabble in the world of connected franchises.
“The MCU has ‘The Avengers,’ but they also have something offbeat like ‘WandaVision,'” Martin told The Hollywood Reporter. “That’s what hopefully we can do with these other ‘Game of Thrones’ shows so that we can have a diversity that shows the history of that world.” To create something aurally different than the previous HBO series has that author, and at the end of the day what Martin is saying is gospel. He is the one who created these beloved characters and his desire to be a part of the thriving world continues. When asked if he sees himself like other well-known franchise creators, Martin is sure he doesn’t.
“Not Stan Lee in the end,” Martin decided. Just being the mascot of a franchise is out of the question for the author. He continued, “It would be difficult to be left out of the world and the characters you created.” And unlike Lee’s previous work, Martin doesn’t have time for cameos, as he swears he’s still working on ” The Winds of Winter” works.
