Gabby Dawson’s Best Storyline On Chicago Fire

Read Time:1 Minute, 6 Second

A major subplot of the season 2 finale, “Real Never Waits,” dealt with Gabby Dawson’s qualification. The paramedic passes her exam this episode, but she’s tested further when she’s assigned to house 105 and station manager Welch (Kenny Johnson), who dismisses her promotion as a “token.” However, Dawson refuses to be broken by Welch’s treatment and stays in the house. The young firefighter’s determination and skills eventually earn him the respect of Welch and the rest of the crew. It’s one of Dawson’s best hours on the show, as she proves to be just as professional and dedicated as anyone in the fire department.

The other defining moment for Dawson in this episode is the cliffhanger when Casey makes a shocking marriage proposal to her after Boden (Eamonn Walker) and Donna (Melissa Ponzio) get married. Before she can answer, however, the team must answer a call about a building fire that becomes catastrophic in the final minutes of the season. Unfortunately, fans had to wait until Season 3 to get the cliffhanger resolution, but it was clear that Dawson was going through some serious changes during Real Never Waits. Monica Raymund commented in a ScreenSlam interview that “After this episode, Dawson will be even more ambitious and uncompromising about herself and her career.”
