On August 1, 2022, Netflix released a new trailer and key visual for Studio Trigger’s upcoming anime TV series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, inspired by CD PROJEKT RED’s game Cyberpunk 2077. The anime is set to premiere in September 2022.

The trailer teases, “Welcome to the night city where chrome trumps flesh.” Immediately we see the police fighting powerful cyborgs. Next we see a young David attending school. Later, we see young David’s mother driving him somewhere in a car and telling him, “You must become an elite and reach the top of Arasaka Tower.”
Unfortunately, right after this, David’s mother is gunned down right before his eyes and he can’t do anything about it. At this point, we understand more about David’s motivations for wanting to be “chipped” later in the series and learn more about his backstory.
The main characters are highlighted: rowdy David, badass Maine, tomboy Dorio, cold and deadly Kiwi, villain Pilar, hot-headed and feisty Rebecca, and femme fatale Lucy. We see David tell Lucy, “I promise to take you to the moon,” which makes Lucy kiss him!

What is the plot of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners?
The story revolves around a street kid named David Martinez trying to survive in Night City – a futuristic, technologically advanced place where people are obsessed with enhancing their bodies with cybernetic implants and other types of body modifications. With everything to lose, our hero decides that in order to stay alive, he must become an “Edgerunner” – a lawless mercenary also known as “Cyberpunk”. But with our hero’s ruthless attitude, will he be able to survive the corruption and dangers of this dystopian world?

What is the game Cyberpunk 2077 about?
The open-world action-adventure story takes place in Night City – a megapolis obsessed with power, glamor and body modifications with cybernetic implants. You play the game as V, a lawless mercenary searching for a unique cybernetic implant that will grant immortality to its user. Within the game, you can customize V’s cyberware, skillset, and playstyle to keep things interesting. As V explores the world, his decisions affect the story and the world around him with interesting twists.
Cyberpunk 2077 was released in November 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
