“I love that the second movie is the one where people just blatantly come up to you and say, ‘Yeah, I hated that. It’s like, ‘Cool, you just said that to my face like I’m not a person. But okay, thanks,'” Cheadle said in an interview with GQ while discussing Oceans’ Twelve. But while fans and critics had a lackluster response to the film, and many felt the plot was flimsy, Cheadle looks back fondly on the experience: “That was actually the funniest one for us.”
Cheadle recalled that during filming, the entire cast and their families stayed on the sixth floor of the de Russie Hotel in Italy and didn’t venture out much because of the paparazzi. “We were really kind of apart,” he recalled. “So my kids were there and Matt’s kids were there and we just toured Europe in this big group and it was a lot of fun. Everyone just had a lot of fun together.”
Perhaps part of the problem was that Ocean’s Twelve wasn’t originally scripted as a sequel to Ocean’s Eleven. They’re having a great time, and that’s exactly what they’re doing if you ask Cheadle.
