In a behind-the-scenes post showing himself and Jodie Whittaker in front of a green screen, Mandip Gill bid farewell to “Doctor Who” fans in an Instagram post on the day their final episode, “The Power of the Doctor,” aired. “And the best part is no one else has to be us,” Gil wrote. “[T]Thank you to every single person behind the camera, before and after the best five years ever! I never thought I would ever say this, but I hope Doctors and Daleks will follow me for the rest of my life. ‘Let’s not say goodbye.'”

Many expressed their thanks and congratulations for a job well done, including Russell T. Davies, who revived the show in 2005 and is now returning as showrunner after Whittaker’s departure. “Wonderful! Congratulations and lots of love,” Davies wrote. The official Doctor Who Instagram also stopped by to thank Gill for her work on the show. Other fans expressed warm wishes, including user @jackie.grayx, who wrote: “Tonight’s episode broke me, but only because of all the joy this era has brought.” While most of the well-wishers had positives to say , one user @misunderstood_scot expressed regret that The Doctor and Yaz had never kissed as a romantic subplot had been building between them for several episodes.

Users on Twitter were similarly smothered for Gill. “Mandip Gill bow,” wrote one Twitter user @mag_lex while sharing a scene of Gill crying in her final episode. “IM A MESS I already miss Jodie and Mandip so much,” she wrote @noraxswynonna. While many fans have already looked forward to the episode’s shocking ending, others are still bidding a longing farewell to one of the Doctor’s most loyal companions.
