As revealed by Gizmodo, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness wastes little time getting America Chavez into the fray. The movie reportedly starts with her, along with a ponytailed variant of Doctor Strange that we’ve previously seen through the movie’s merchandise, and skips through an unfamiliar world. It turns out she’s been stalking some sort of demon and wants to steal Chavez’s abilities for herself, going as far as killing this version of Strange to do so. Thankfully it’s unsuccessful and Chavez escapes, just in time for the Stephen Strange we’re all familiar with to wake up from what was obviously a dream.
Shortly thereafter, Strange learns that his bad dream wasn’t entirely made up. Chavez and a tentacled monster named Gargantos, who has also appeared in teasers and merchandise, land in New York, and the creature is more than willing to wreak havoc to reach them. Engaging in an action sequence said to be full of director Sam Raimi’s classic stylistic flair, Strange and Wong defeat the monster and save Chavez from a horrific fate. After the fight, the trio visits a pizza shop, where Chavez explains that evil beings are looking for her for her ability to jump dimensions, so Strange and Wong agree to protect her.
It goes without saying that this is an incredibly exciting start for America Chavez in the MCU, and it will be interesting to see what else Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has in store for her when it premieres on May 6, 2022 .
