The new year 2023 is here and it promises to be a big year for anime for Disney+ Japan. Disney+ Japan teases a lot of upcoming shows, movies and anime.
My Hero Academia is the focus of a post that heralds the new year 2023, the year of the rabbit.
The special post from the official Disney+ Japan Twitter account includes a GIF teasing that the service will determine which rabbit you are, and Mirko from the superhero anime My Hero Academia is an option! Who would have thought they would see Mirko side by side with Bambi’s Thumper?
Be sure to follow and retweet (quote) the post to find out how lucky you are. Immediately after quoting the tweet, you’ll receive a reply to your quoted ReTweet stating which lucky rabbit is yours and your fortune. My lucky rabbit turned out to be Judy Hopps from Zootopia. Disney+ Japan said my destiny was, “Like Judy with a sense of justice, let’s go through the year with a straight heart.”
Thirty lucky winners will receive a rabbit-themed gift. The closing date for entries is January 7, 2022.
Disney+ Japan is targeting anime for 2023
The GIF features rabbits from Disney’s catalog from Judy in Zootopia to the March Hare from Alice in Wonderland. There are even references to rabbits appearing in animated shorts like Star Wars Visions and Burrow. Although My Hero Academia doesn’t stream through Disney+ in North America, you can watch My Hero Academia in Japan through its streaming service.
In 2022, Disney+ Japan became an anime powerhouse, boasting a lineup of top-notch anime similar to Netflix in its current acquisitions. Disney+ has acquired additional anime licenses worldwide. In Japan, Disney+ subscribers were able to watch Bleach and Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. In North America, anime fans watched Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War through HULU.
What is the year of the rabbit?
The Chinese zodiac has a continuous cycle of 12 years and represents a different zodiacal animal each year. The Chinese zodiac is based on astrology and was used in ancient times to count years and houses in the Chinese lunar calendar. The rabbit is number 4th in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac animals, which include: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.
Each zodiac year in Chinese astrology is associated with one of the five elements: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. Every 60 years there comes a water rabbit year and 2023 is one such year. This means that 2023 will be a very peaceful year following the brave Year of the Tiger. In Chinese culture, the rabbit is considered one of the happiest of the 12 animals of the zodiac, representing forgiveness, grace and beauty.
