In a standard episode of The Office, the characters hang out in an office. Every once in a while they go to Chili’s or someone’s house, but it’s all pretty down to earth. Of course, things went to another level when Dwight attempted to ride a tightrope on a bike attached to a printer, turning around in the process to the dismay and dismay of his colleagues.
It was an extraordinary moment in an otherwise ordinary show. During a Reddit AMA, Rainn Wilson was asked about the stunt. Redditor u/boggart777 asked, “Do you do your own stunts in the office? [sic].” Wilson replied, “There was a stunt guy actually hanging from this bike over the parking lot (while connected to the cable). He also did some of these amazing flips and stunts on the slackline. Unfortunately forgot his name. He was amazing and made me look amazing!”
While someone else had to pull off that dangerous stunt, Wilson managed to sneak a few of his own over the course of the series. Back in Season 3, Dwight and Andy (Ed Helms) get into a duel in the parking lot, resulting in Andy tying Dwight with his car. While doing a take with stunt doubles, they eventually settled on the version where Wilson himself is actually being held down with a car (via CheatSheet). It seems that Wilson was comfortable with certain stunts, but the team behind the scenes probably wasn’t willing to take the risk of him dangling over a parking lot.
