Did Obi-Wan Kenobi Just Drop A Sick John Wick Reference?

Obi-Wan Kenobi Part II contains a very John Wick-esque moment where Reva (Moses Ingram) tries to outdo the Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend) by catching Obi-Wan before him. Their chosen method is to alert the whole town to hunt down the Jedi – a cool bounty hologram mass transmission that closely resembles the excommunicato sequence in “John Wick 2” when John’s fledgling former fellow assassins learn that the hunt has begun.

The obvious clue hasn’t gone unnoticed by fandom. “John Wick excommunicated moment in Part 2 as everyone in town searches for Obi-Wan”, User @zappz wrote on Twitter. Others believe that the “ex-Communido part” is actually just part of the “John Wick” homage, and suggest that the show’s overall vibe is essentially a grand ol’ nod to the Keanu Reeves movies. “Honestly, Obi-Wan playing John Wick is real slam dunk honestly, I can’t believe I’m surprised they’re aiming for that should have been obvious. @KevKoeser tweeted.

John Wick is hardly the only pro on the run from a large cast of enemies in the history of cinema, so it might as well be that “Obi-Wan Kenobi” Part II is a “Star Wars” themed version of that particular movie trope – after all, it fits Obi-Wan’s post-Order 66 situation extremely well. Whether accidental or intentional, it’s clear fans appreciate the “John Wick” nod.
