Not long after it was revealed who was in the running for an Oscar, fans took to Twitter to express their frustration at the lack of love shown for Danielle Deadwyler’s performance in the movie “Till.” user @sarahdistortion wrote in one post: “The deletion of Danielle Deadwyler is ridiculous and embarrassing,” and @JarohnJ posted: “That snub from Danielle Deadwyler was SO FUCKING LAZY.”

user @willmovies did not mince words: “Danielle Deadwyler, who is missing for best actress, must already be one of the most criminal Oscar snubs in recent history.” another user, @MrErnestOwenscontinued this sentiment by focusing on the academy, writing, “The academy always takes 3 steps forward, only to end up being 5 steps back.” user @sedwardskc Going a step further, she pointed to a potentially bigger problem: “If Danielle Deadwyler couldn’t be nominated for her role in ‘Till,’ in which she portrays with poise and heart such a monumental figure in American history, then she will.” black woman NEVER win the best actress again! It was the perfect role and performance.”

Fans aren’t thrilled that the prestigious event ignored such an important film and the star’s stunning performance. The reaction isn’t too confusing, especially since it’s no secret that Deadwyler has put a lot into bringing Mamie Till to life on screen. When Chinonye Chukwu spoke to Deadline about the film, the director praised the actress, saying, “Danielle blew it out of the park. She had such an inherent emotional and psychological understanding of who Mamie Till was.”

Even though she’s not in the running for an Oscar, fans will always remember that Deadwyler’s performance on “Till” was Oscar-worthy in their hearts.
