Season 5 of Cobra Kai introduces an international tournament called Sekai Taikai. The Sekai Taikai takes in martial artists from around the world and sends them into a tournament to determine the world’s greatest fighter.
Of course, Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do’s senior sensei are interested in qualifying for the tournament. In Episode 8 of Season 5, tournament officials show up to watch members of both dojos spar. But it’s not a fair fight for Daniel LaRusso and the kids in Miyagi-Do. Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) paid off one of the judges, leaving the Cobra Kai athletes at a complete disadvantage as their points are undercounted and shots are ignored. A match between Kenny Payne (Dallas Dupree Young) and Eli “Hawk” Moskowitz (Jacob Bertrand) ends when Kenny knocks the wind out of Hawk with a Silver Strike. Miyagi-Do’s chances all come down to Sam LaRusso (Mary Mouser), who thoroughly defeats new Cobra-Kai acolyte Devon Lee (Oona O’Brien) after Tory Nichols (Peyton List) misses their match. The end result is that both dojos qualify for the competition.
With John Kreese (Martin Kove) released from prison and both dojos competing in the tournament, the Sekai Taikai could prove to be the ultimate battleground for escalating tensions. However, given the international nature of the tournament, there is no telling what outside forces could wreak havoc in one (or both) dojos. We’ll have to hope that “Cobra Kai” gets the green light for a Season 6 so we can find out.
