During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Chris O’Donnell addressed the issue of his family appearing on NCIS: Los Angeles. And in a humorous tale, the actor shared how his wife, Caroline O’Donnell, and some of their friends nearly got him in trouble while directing an episode of NCIS: Los Angeles. O’Donnell told Colbert that he brought his wife and her friends to an episode he was directing. The actor then recalled that during an intense scene where a villain is shooting at a diner, everyone should run and panic. However, O’Donnell’s spouse and friends apparently did not receive the memo.

“I look at the backing track after we take the tape because there are hundreds of people there,” O’Donnell told Colbert. “There’s a group of girls walking by and they’re all laughing hysterically and they’re still wearing real champagne that they ordered themselves.” Of course, the special group turned out to be Caroline and her friends. O’Donnell went on to say on The Late Show that he needs to tell his wife and her friends to stop laughing and take the scene a little more seriously or they could cost him his job.

Since no keen-eyed fan has reported background actors laughing during such an important scene, we’re assuming the reshoots went smoothly. Still, the incident would have been a great addition to the blooper role.
