During an appearance on the RadioTimes View From My Sofa podcast on November 1, Helen Fielding admitted that she is in the process of writing a screenplay for a fourth Bridget Jones film, based on Mad About the Boy. based. “Yes, I’m working on it and I really hope it will happen. Every film that is made is a miracle – it’s really difficult to make films and do them well. But I would love to see him on screen ,” she said.
Mad About the Boy was quite a controversial novel when it first came out for daring to kill Bridget’s true love, Mark Darcy. Set 14 years after the original Bridget Jones’s Diary, it sees her raising her children alone while trying to adapt Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler into a screenplay and grappling with the modern dating scene. There’s no word on whether the film version of events will follow the novel’s example, or whether Darcy’s main rival for Bridget’s love, Daniel Cleaver, will return. There’s also no word on whether or not the film’s lead stars — Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant — will be returning for the potential project.
