From almost the beginning of “The Walking Dead” until his death in season 8, Carl Grimes played a major role as his father Rick’s right-hand man. When Rick stood on the brink and almost gave in to his dark side, Carl was always able to call him back and point out that his own belief system should prevent him from crossing those boundaries. In this way, the next generation has always played a big part in the franchise’s morale, which fully carries over into the hopeful tone of The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
With Rick, Michonne and Carl all gone and RJ still a little too young to take a lead role, Rick’s daughter with Lori and Michonne’s adopted child Judith becomes a main character in the final few seasons. With the same determination and heroism as her parents, Judith is not only able to calm and defend the other children, but also takes part in major events and inspires the adults around her to keep an eye on the price in conflicts. Although we almost lose her in the finale due to a gunshot wound, Judith survives and we wonder where she will go from here. Not only that, but Rosita’s daughter Socorro, AJ, and a few others are also getting older, so they may well have important roles in the franchise as well.
