As per its efforts to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic, Biden’s administration will begin delivering more than 25 million face masks to communities widely across the nation at the beginning of March.
Biden Administration Set To Distribute 25 Million Masks Across The Country
Through a statement from the White House on Wednesday, the coronavirus coordinator Jefferey Zients said that the administration is planning the delivery of adult and child-size masks.
A press release from the White House read that these masks will be distributed to more than 1,300 community health centers, and 60,000 food pantries and soup kitchens.
In this huge effort of mask delivery, the prime concern of the administration is the low-income areas of the country. The total cost of the mask delivery plan of the administration would be $86 million, including both manufacture and shipment of the cloth masks. The funding is with the Department of Health and Human Services.
Zients remarked that many low-income Americans still are not getting access to this basic and affordable protection, even though they are widely available everywhere in different sizes and shapes. Not all masks are equal and not all Americans are wearing them regularly.
Zients said that the ultimate goal of the plan is to reach people who may be in particular need of support and provide them with masks. He continued that the effort is a part of president Biden’s focus on health equity and it would allow those who are not able to find a mask or even afford one.
The press release also stated that each of the recipients of the same household will get an individually wrapped packet of two masks.
In a further clarification Zient’s said that in any of the locations in America, people will be able to get access to no-cost masks. These masks will be the U.S made, and with high-quality, well-fitting, washable for reuse, as well as consistent with the guidelines of the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The plan was alluded to by President Biden himself on Tuesday during a virtual roundtable event with Black frontline workers. During which he said that very shortly, the administration is probably going to send out an awful lot of masks across the country, though he didn’t go deeper to specify at that event.
The White House also announced on Wednesday that the national emergency declared by the previous administration of Donald Trump will be extended which was in response to COVID-19 on the 13th of March,2020, beyond the 21st of March 2021.
Biden said in a statement that since the coronavirus pandemic still causes a significant risk to the public health and safety of the nation, there is a need to continue with the national emergency.
After taking his office, president Biden has been taking an array of executions employing his efforts to wipe out the pandemic from the country. In which, he instituted efforts towards the widespread use of masks. He insisted the public wear a mask mandatorily in federal properties as well as during interstate travel.
