Anime TV series Ao Ashi Season 2 will resume the story of high school soccer player Ashito Aoi who joins Team A after Esperion B vs. Tokyo Musashino game. But when will Aoashi Season 2 come out?

The studio and main staff making Ao Ashi Season 2 have not been announced yet.

For the first season, the anime project was produced by animation studio Production IG, which lately has been mainly responsible for the production of Psycho-Pass, Moriarty the Patriot and Haikyuu!! Anime series (Haikyuu!! Season 5 when!?).

The Ultraman Season 3 release date is in the future in 2023. The company is also the producer of Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 3, although Studio MAPPA is still handling the animation work.

The Anime Project Ao Ashi Season 1 was directed by Akira Satou (Release the Spyce). Jun Soga (storyboarding for Jouran: The Princess of Snow and Blood) was the assistant director. Author Masahiro Yokotani (The Devil is a Part-Timer! Season 2, Re:ZERO) wrote the screenplays.

The project had many character designers including Manabu Nakatake (High School DxD Hero), Toshie Kawamura (Bucchigire!), Asuka Yamaguchi (Noblesse) and Saki Hasegawa (My Hero Academia, Vinland Saga, Jujutsu Kaisen). Nakatake and Yamaguchi were also chief animation directors. Composer Masaru Yokoyama (Urusei Yatsura 2022, Classroom of the Elite Season 3) created the music.

The theme song music of Ao Ashi Season 2 OP (Opening) and ED (Ending) has not yet been announced.

In the first season, the Ao Ashi OP “Mushinhakusuu” was performed by Alexandros, while the ED “Blue Diary” was performed by Rinne. The Ao Ashi Part 2 OP “Presence” was by Superfly while the second ED was “Color Lily no Koibumi” by Kami wa Saikoro wo Furanai.

Aoashi Season 1 streamed with English subtitles on Crunchyroll, Netflix Japan, and Disney+ International (not Netflix US, Disney+ US, VRV, HIDIVE, Hulu, Funimation, or Amazon Prime Video) from Spring 2022 to Summer 2022. Disney+ streamed the episodes internationally only in Southeast Asia in Hong Kong, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan.

The season one finale, Ao Ashi Episode 24, will be released on September 17, 2022.

The 24 episodes will be released as two Ao Ashi Blu-Ray/DVD volumes on September 28, 2022 and December 21, 2022 respectively.

This article contains everything that is known about Ao Ashi Season 2 (Aoashi Season 2) and all the news related to it. As such, this article will be updated with news, rumors, and analysis over time. In the meantime, let’s get into what’s known for sure

Ao Ashi Season 2 Release Date Predictions: Is Late 2023 Possible?

Until the last update, Studio Production IG, Shueisha, NHK, Bandai or other companies related to the production of the anime have not officially confirmed the release date of Ao Ashi Season 2. Production of a second season sequel to Aoashi has also not been announced.

Once the news is officially confirmed, this article will be updated with the relevant information.

In the meantime, it’s possible to speculate as to when or if the Aoashi Season 2 release date will be in the future.

Ao Ashi’s ratings were much higher than average for a team sports anime. Reviewers often compare the Aoashi anime to the critically acclaimed Haikyuu!! Anime series.

Recent examples of similarly themed football/soccer anime include Farewell, My Dear Cramer, Futsal Boys!!! and shoot! goal for the future. None of these series have received good reviews. It will be interesting to see how Ao Ashi stacks up against the upcoming Blue Lock anime from Studio 8bit best known for producing That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.

From a financial point of view, the first season has been consistently ranked in the top 10 of Crunchyroll’s popular anime list in the spring and summer of 2022, but it doesn’t stand a chance for a renewal like SPY x FAMILY Part 2.

Another positive data point is that the anime airing gave a huge boost to sales of the Ao Ashi manga in Japan. In Spring 2022, the manga series made it onto Oricon’s top 10 manga list April (10th place with 231,000 copies sold), Can (#7 with 267,000 copies sold) and June 2022 (#5 with 429,000 copies sold).

To put the sales numbers in perspective, as of February 2022, prior to the anime’s premiere, the manga had over 10 million copies distributed. As of June 2022, the manga had over 12 million copies in circulation.

Therefore, it is very likely that the anime production committee will renew Ao Ashi for a second season. They might even have secretly started pre-production if they predicted how popular this football anime would become.

Notably, Ao Ashi producers Rui Kuroki and Morihiro Fumi also worked on Haikyuu!! Anime series. Haikyu!! Season 1 ran from April 2014 to September 2014. Haikyuu!! Season 2 followed from October 2015 to March 2016.

Assuming that the producers of the Aoashi Season 2 anime follow a pattern similar to Haikyuu!! follow, it is possible that the release date of Ao Ashi Season 2 could be late 2023.

Crunchyroll’s Ao Ashi Season 2 English dubbed

The release date of Crunchyroll’s Ao Ashi English dub for season one was April 23, 2022, which was just a few weeks behind the series premiere of April 9, 2022.

Here are some of the main members of Crunchyroll’s Ao Ashi dub cast:

  • Ciarán Strange (Richard in Requiem of the Rose King) as Ashito Aoi
  • Eric Vale (Trunks in Dragon Ball Z Kai) as Tatsuya Fukuda
  • Marisa Duran (Lou/Louise in SHADOWS HOUSE Season 2) as Hana Ichijo
  • Monica Rial (Bulma in Dragon Ball Z Kai) as Noriko Aoi
  • Blake McNamara (Seth Rich Cutter in Appare-Ranman!) as Shun Aoi
  • Kim Morton as Kogure
  • Meg McClain as Nanami
  • Kelsey Maher as Sawa

Supposedly, Crunchyroll’s Ao Ashi Season 2 English Dub release date will be announced in the future after Funimation was discontinued by Sony after Aoashi Season 2 premiered with Japanese audio and English subtitles for the first time.

Ao Ashi manga vs anime

The story of the anime TV series is based on the manga Ao Ashi by writer/illustrator Yuugo Kobayashi and writer Naohiko Ueno.

The manga has been published in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazines since January 2015 and is in Ao Ashi Volume 28 until May 30, 2022. Over 300 chapters have already been published in the summer of 2022.

In July 2021, a spin-off series called Ao Ashi: Brother Foot (Aoashi Burazaofutto) started. The spin-off focuses on Ashito’s brother Shun.

Unfortunately, no publisher has yet announced an official English translation of the Ao Ashi manga for North America. Thankfully, there are fan translation projects that have kept up with the latest chapters.

Considering the project was produced by Production IG, it’s no surprise that the anime stayed true to the source material. The only major change made by the anime was cutting out a small scene from the manga where Ashito imagined himself being taken advantage of by perverted old men in Tokyo. There were also minor adjustments here and there.

The pacing of the anime adaptation was pretty much perfect. The first two episodes only had 6 chapters and from there Episode 3 was adjusted to 6.5 chapters.

The pace of adaptation of the first season averaged about 5 chapters per episode. Here is a guide on how the anime adapted the manga chapters.

  • Ao Ashi Episode 3: Chapter 7 – 13.5
  • Ao Ashi Episode 4: Chapter 13.5 – 19
  • Ao Ashi Episode 5: Chapters 20 – 22
  • Ao Ashi Episode 6: Chapters 23 – 27
  • Ao Ashi Episode 7: Chapters 27 – 32
  • Ao Ashi Episode 8: Chapters 33 – 37
  • Ao Ashi Episode 9: Chapters 38 – 42
  • Ao Ashi Episode 10: Chapters 43 – 46
  • Ao Ashi Episode 11: Chapters 47 – 51
  • Ao Ashi Episode 12: Chapters 52 – 56
  • Ao Ashi Episode 13: Chapters 57 – 62
  • Ao Ashi Episode 14: Chapters 62 – 66
  • Ao Ashi Episode 15: Chapters 67 – 70
  • Ao Ashi Episode 16: Chapters 71 – 74
  • Ao Ashi Episode 17: Chapter 75 – TBA
  • Ao Ashi Episode 18: Chapter TBA
  • Ao Ashi Episode 19: Chapter TBA
  • Ao Ashi Episode 20: Chapter TBA
  • Ao Ashi Episode 21: Chapter TBA
  • Ao Ashi Episode 22: Chapter TBA
  • Ao Ashi Episode 23: Chapter TBA
  • Ao Ashi Episode 24: Chapter TBA – 115?

All in all, it’s predicted that the Season 1 finale, Aoashi Episode 24, will find a breakpoint to match the ending of Volume 11: Chapter 115.

It is the best stopping point as it would match the aftermath of the Tokyo Musashino vs Esperion B game. The revelation that Ashito would be promoted to Team A is a major turning point in the story, making it the best way to end the season.

The good news is that there is plenty of source material available for the making of Ao Ashi Season 2. Only about a third of the chapters available in 2022 were adapted by season one.

Better still, English speaking manga readers can jump straight to reading Ao Ashi Chapter 116 online.
