Two decades since his last major role, Ke Huy Quan auditioned for writer/directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for the role of Waymond in Everything Everywhere All at Once. After a grueling two months of waiting, Quan got the call he’d been waiting for and was told he’d landed the part. Of course, getting a big movie role involves signing contracts, and for that he turned to Jeff Cohen, who played Chunk in The Goonies.
Shortly after dancing the truffle shuffle on The Goonies, Cohen changed career paths and received a law degree from UCLA in 2000. He used this degree to become a consumer electronics attorney. When it came time for Quan to sign the contract to play his role in All At Once, his former Treasure Hunter co-star was there to help, and that connection was something almost surreal appeared.
As Quan explained, having to face off against two iconic Goonies certainly came as a surprise to some people. “When our film’s producer tried to close my deal, he said he never thought he’d need to speak to Chunk and Data for his film,” Quan said. Thankfully, these Goonies stuck together, and Cohen helped nail Quan’s contract and role as Waymond.
