When asked if there was any older anime of his that he would like to film or do in another season, Watanabe replied, “I think I could do ‘Space Dandy’ forever more. I would make so much of it, up to a season 50 or so, that people would get mad and say, ‘This is too much! Stop that!’”
Space Dandy follows the adventures of a guy named Space Dandy (described in the opening credits as “a dandy dude in space”) as he explores the galaxy in search of new alien species while frequenting the Hooters-esque “Boobies” restaurant his vacuum robot QT and the feline alien Slacker Meow. Notably, the final sign off was not “The End” but “May Be Continued?”. Unfortunately, this great show was not a huge hit with audiences, even with significant publicity from Adult Swim’s Toonami block in the United States, so a sequel seems unlikely. Of course, just having two perfect seasons might be better than being exhausted by season 50…
