Because the Dragon Ball franchise has been around for so long, it has garnered one of the most passionate fan bases of any anime. Without Goku and Vegeta, it’s not easy to understand how Shonen would work as a whole. The two have become the mascots of the industry.

This means Dragon Ball has received a ton of honors over the years, but all of them aren’t fresh enough to add to the Dragon Ball legends. The new fan film Legend: A Dragon Ball Tale that has just been released is pure Dragon Ball awesomeness.

Legend: A Dragon Ball Story

Studio Stray Dog produced the anime short film Legend: A Dragon Ball Tale. Alongside the YouTube release of the project, a note was released honoring series creator Akira Toriyama for inspiring “a generation of fans.” The 11-minute animated short is packed with action, with Goku taking center stage in his blazing, ferocious Super Saiyan form.

The action is inspired by the animation style of the original anime. Vegeta battles Broly with Goku in a traditional Dragon Ball fighting scenario brought to life by vibrant colors and an energetic soundtrack. Vegeta tries to convince Goku to accept his duty as a Saiyan warrior in an open-ended scene in the film that leaves fans with much room for speculation.

Check out the action-packed trailer below:

Fans can follow Vegeta in a universe where he rules as king while watching the animated series, which incorporates elements from each chapter of Toriyama’s groundbreaking book. The prince is sent to Earth, where Goku enters another competition after learning of Broly’s ridiculously high powers. And as the movie progresses, well, once its animation kicks into high gear, your jaw will drop.

Legend: A Dragon Ball Tale is the perfect ode to Toriyama’s revered series, and completing a masterpiece like this is no easy task. It’s not easy to imagine another homage that does Dragon Ball justice, from its slick animation to its blink-and-you-miss-choreography.

Dragon Ball: The Generations Franchise

With more than 300 million copies of the manga in circulation, Dragon Ball is one of the most popular manga/anime series of all time. The series first appeared in the 1980s, and since then both anime and manga have had a significant impact. Dragon Ball is not only the second best-selling manga series of all time, but has also influenced many other manga creators.

The most-watched fighting shonen anime of all time is Dragon Ball Z. Although the series is 40 years old, it’s still relevant and new movies are still being released today, with Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero set to be released in August 2022. A new Dragon Ball 2023 anime project is said to be in production as well. Undoubtedly, the Dragon Ball anime series has established itself as a mainstay and greatly increased the appeal of anime on a global scale.

The iconic television series is based in part on the Chinese folk tale Journey to the West. Son Goku, a young man with a monkey’s tail, is the main character of the Dragon Ball anime series, which focuses on his quest to collect all seven mythical Dragon Balls that, when combined, can create a wish-granting dragon. Though the first arcs of the series are light-hearted and comical, Dragon Ball’s imaginative tone later shifts to a more action-oriented style as the characters grapple with new challenges from across the universe. The Dragon Ball universe is expanding and so are its enemies, but Goku and his companions are there to save the day thanks to their martial arts.

Dragon Ball streaming options include Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu for a few seasons. Viz Media has the manga available in English.
